The beginning of a legendary season

It has already been a legendary season so far in the alps. Even though it has barely started. I've had some more awesome weeks after doing couloirs and coffe bars in Canazei, going thorugh both France, Switzerland, Austria and even Germany, for the ISPO in Munich.

Ripping together with Tor Fænrik aka "da captain" in Disentis, Switzerland.

First stopped by Chamonix and Aosta, with Pilbøgen and Fripster, getting a nice dinner by kokken Jens at the Munchies and some good riding on the first big January storm. Charging the batteries at Fripsters place with good times and getting some online work done also hit the spot. Thanx to Fripster for the hopitality and the beer!

Frippe puttin some abracadabra into the pillows of Cham Pow Luc

Then headed to Disentis where everything just got better and better. Crashed in the brand new Nangijala bed & bar that has taken afterski and nightlife into a new level in Disentis. (Level one that is still actually... so we are not talking Garage here).

Disentis was as always tons of pow to go around for everybody to share long after snowfall. What a place. Hooked up with the Radicals, with the Åre vacation club crew and with Capt Fænrix, lillejallis and brand new Morten.

The Ponteletoons parked outside.

Good hygge inside.

And stuff like this for Morten and all the others outside.

Than, after a quick visit to Andermatt with the Havre dudes, Eidslott, Bjørni and Sandbech, I headed to ISPO to get my skis waxed by the superman Swix prepp professor and then it was straight back to Italy again. And hold on to the brillan. It had snowed about a couple of meters since the last time I was there and it snowed over another meter when we had arrived. Definition of epic. Claim that mofokkaz.

This terrain, with all that snow? Best ever. Just ski down there and jump off of something for crying out loud. As long as there isn't a tree there, the landing is good.

The Olympics in pillows was also held when we visited Italy this time. Here is Chris passing one of the favorites for the gold medal.

And just forget about it..... we will be back.

See you on the mountain!

Culo ars and coffe bars

Italy is the place to be this year. Finally the mountains of the Dolomites, with its lifts, coffee machines and couloirs randomly scattered around the uncrowded terrain, has got a good snow base this year.

Fripps Ericsson enjoys a little italian pow in a bit of bad and changing visibility. But no worries, all couloirs lead to coffee, and if there is any trubble in between, Frippulf allways has a rope in his backpack.

For the first time in years the Dolomites is in the very lead of the snow race. The base is excellent, and it seems every storm coming in is hammering theese mountains harder than everywhere else. Then, probably since there has'nt really been a lot of powder here for about 5 seasons, nobody is skiing it. They dont have the skis for it, they probably can't even ski anything else than piste, and actually it seems they are not very interresten in the pow stuff anyway. Perfecto.

Me ending a nice utracked run above the piste in Canazei. Seems nobody even thought about touching this snow. Photo: Mikael Pilbøg

Besides the skiing, Italy is a good place to be also because of the food and the drinks. The red wine is excellent, the pizza is value on the menu and the coffee afterwards is maybe most important. One before also. Ans then a dopio later. Viva la big ass espressomachine.

Bøgen explains his patented square pizza slizing tecniquen extreme and Frippe is stunned by this 11th wonder of the world from the north shore of Varberg.

At the top and bottom of every run you are shure to find a good Italian coffee.

Can you see the coffee bar down there?

Porky and the Pilbøg, straight outta Italy! Where do we go next? It is pjuking everywhere!

Winter 09 Getting Started

Took it easy starting off the 09 winter season with chill times in Hyggedal. Playing with Max Hygge, hanging with Maria and staying with Schou, Tuten, David and Landsbylegen was the perfect way to start the winter season.

Ripping ice with Maria is almost as good as pow with the boys.

Cruising pist and crap can be just as good for getting in pow shape as going straight for the actual good stuff. But it is not nescesarely that fun. After scarping ice and eating hard landings on small drops around Hemsedal I got soft and headed to Voss together with David. Weather forecast said it was turning from snow to sun, and the rumours said the top lifts were opening up after some down time. We got in the car, filled the coffeecups and did an early morning start.

Popping pill(ows) gets you up in the morning.

Finding Voss' deapest and steepest in the forrest. Maybe also the shortest, but there is a lot of good small stuff in the Voss Fjellandsby resort. Even if you don't like eating sheep heads and drinking home brew, you're probably going to like the skiing if you go there.

David Magnusson heading towards pøls and more coffee at the YX station down town Voss redneck outskirts.

Thanx to Sverre Cornerbay and his colleagues for excellent guiding, awalanche security and shootig the photos. Check out www.digitalnatur.no

Snow in the moutains!

Marius on top of a snow covered mountain in October, somewhere in the outskirts of Jotunheimen, Norway.

The snow has come to the mountains of Norway. Jørgen J aka doctor-J-master and Marius eiendomsmegler Flaaten have been skiing pow around the Beito-hood while Camilla aka the freeride doctor has been jibbing with the family in Hemsedal.

Powder to the... boots maybe? Look out for sharks, they have not eaten all summer.

Analen in hemsedal puts on the first layer of white makeup for the ball.

My is telling David where to put on snow to get the angle right.

And watching mama do the test jump. Switch 270 safety to rail?

Papa showing what's hot this season: no gloves and no goggles.

Chill surf weeks at the west cape

Green and glossy has been on the menu at Stadlandet.

It is back to reality; sity slickin, 9 to fives and rushtrafikk i kø med fattigfolka. Have enjoyed a couple of chill weeks in H-bay surfin, fishing, drinkin Norrlands Gold in the new greppvänliga cans and eatin Marias excellent food with Seamen, Harrolds, Spådama Anne and Max Hygge.

For the last two weeks there has been constant swell and lots of good surf all along the Norwegian coast. At Stad it's been everything from Big and clean to small and messy, but we've had fun surf almost every day. We´ve had lots of good weather and the water temperature still about 15 degrees celsius, cooking me in my psycho 6/4.

Max Hygge and me with full on Hyggecamo.

Harrolds stylin on a sloppy E-bay wave.

Sneakin another left in front of Harrolds nose.

Christian doin ollies with the Kayak in Hoddebay

Chris with his signature trick, the unstickable floater

Seamen getting closed out in E-bay.

Max Hygge on the beach while mac daddy is surfin.

After surf activities did not include so much shaping this time, but providing food on the table, or at least for the fully automatic kjøkkenbenk. After an afternoon session we cruised out in Jarrold's boat, MS Lapoint Stad I, and towed in enough makrell for a big family dinner, some well appreciated leftovers and a couple of filet gifts to kjøpmannen Otto to put in his freezer.

Capt Harrolds headin home to Maria with the evening catch.

Catching dinner in the sunset outside one of the most beutiful places on earth.

Max and Harrolds laddar kylen med guld and waiting for dinner to be ready.

Good Night Hoddevik, see you soon we hope.

Citysurf is up for a while now, but there will definitely be more waves at bigtrix.com before winter comes around.

Ribsurf at the west cape

Cruised out west to Stad and Hyggevika again to get some surf. The forecast was great and we got what we were primised when the X-trail finally rolled into H-bay. Started off with a couple of nice clean days before the big storm rolled in and started to whip up the ocean for real. When Jarrolds called up and said he had a couple fat and fast RIB’s ready to take us out in search of some new waves working in this massive swell.

We loaded up the boats with people, boards and a cam to document the mission, before pushing the pedal to the rubber and heading out. After a ride that would have been worth the whole trip alone, we found a massive ugly wave that came straight out of the ocean like an angry fist. Unfortunately it died out just as fast as it rose up, but Jarrolds and Harrold Barreld got in anyway, just to prove it was surfable. After some paddeling around in the mess both of them hit the spot and got the shortest ride of the season, but maybe the most angry takeoff with a not unsignificant drop.

The O'neil search hits the oceans of the west cape.

There it is, a fist full of water.

Paddeling the grand ocean

Harrold Barrel proves the wave is surfable, at least for a couple of seconds

Time to teg out of dodge...

Really time to get out of dodge...

Simen got the proof we needed caught on cam and we saddled up about a million hoarses again and got another epic ride back. Fast. Mission accomplished, though maybe not with the best possible results. We are ready for another RIB adventure soon, hopefully resulting in a different and better wave beeing discovered.
