Max Hygge in Engelberg

ISPO was as usual: Bratwurst, beers and good people. Afterskiing at the Norrøna booth, with Norrøna Mag release, slideshows and stuff, meetings with old and new friends from the industry and Kiss Forever concert at the K2 stage.

Then headed back to Switzerland to schred some days before receiving the family and going full on into hyggemode in Engelberg. Of course it was snowing upon my arrival and Bjørn Thomas and Bård were ready to ride after not a not very prosperous trip to Engadin. We got about 20 cm average around the mtn I would say and it was good times even though the stuff underneath could be felt in many places… as both ice and in worst case rocks.

Welcome back to CH

Soft bumps in the woods of Brunni

Endre Løvsteik came down with his cam and we did some comfort shooting with him. One, two or three laps a day that is, with lots of food and beer in between. Exactly the way Engelberg should be done, if you ask someone who knows what they talk about, Johan for example, or Freddy F aka Da Director.

Steika and Bjørni stressing to get the shots.

Max Hygge has arrived. It'll be all about ripping the kids hill the rest of the week.

Japan aftermath: Stocholm BC and heading for the Alps

It was goot to get back to the family after the Japan adventure, even though we could definitively enjoyed a couple more weeks in "the land of the rising sun and strange stuff for breakfast".

Max Hygge helpin daddy switch fromthe Japan pow planks to the Europe hardpack tools.

Got a nija setup for Max before leaving J-pan and went for a size 3 years since he is 2 but likes it baggy. Not too clever though, as a Japanese kid size 3 is about a 0,9 Scandi... He digs it anyway, and it goes well with the goggles that he is wearing a lot now, getting ready for a week in the alps.

I also had to stay in shape and its been dumping hard in Stockholm so I've been hitting up the hard core backcountry of local trash hill Hammarby Mountain, on a longboard together with Mats the Swedish Punk. Awesome. Stockholm rocks! (Not. But is better when it snows at least.)

There it is. The urban big mtn.

The Swedish Punk, ready to rip.

Now, flew down to the alps to get a couple days of skiing in before hitting ISPO with Norrøna and then getting a week in Engelberg with the family. Awesome. Will be back with some swiss pow.

Engelberg, CH, good to be back.

Norrøna at ISPO. Drop by, I'll be in the bar.

Japan wrap up: one of of the very best trips

Just got back to Scandalavia after a trip that will go into my list of about 20 best ever. The deep pow, the food, the cool people we got to hang out with, the onsens and finally the awesome terrain in th Japan-Alps made it an awesome experience.

Slashing a turn in the land of bluebird, pow and the risen sun.

Due to wanting to spend more time in front of the sushi and a bit less in front of the coumputer I have not been completely up to date with the bigtrix updates on this trip, but have also posted at a couple of other sites:

Cat skiing Super Mario Pillow Mini Golf Land 4 in Noregian at friflyt.no

Confirming that skiing in Japan is awesome at k2skis.com

And finally, finishing off the trip in the Japanese Alps, getting into a little shallower snow but a lot bigger and steeper terrain. Staying with Tony and the other good mates at the White Horse, beeing picked up by Clint on our awesome slackcountry laps off the side of the resort and guided to some good off mtn time too (talk to Håvard for more about just that).

Clint, and Chie and Happy-Happo-Howie after a good day.

See more J-alps shots at the norrona.com blog.

Thanx to Jens, Håvard, Nick, Yuki, Maaya, Tomoko, Tony, Clint and many more for an awesome trip! Look for the story in Norrøna Mag, next fall.

Next up is Switzerland, after ripping some more pow with the Swdish Punk in Stocholm:

Japan Part two: got sushi, got pow, need some steeper terrain

Finally got myself to sit down between all the yuki, biru, sushi and onsen, to write another BIG mountains dirty TRIX dot COM update from the land of the never rising sun.

Following Nick Waggoner into the stashes.

After a day of locked down heels on the borrowed Hellbents, my skis came ut from Tokyo together with Jens, aka monkey boy, and we were good to go snowsuring. With Maaya-San makin sure we slept good at the Hilton, Tomoko-San makin sure we got up the mountain on the Niseko Village Gondola right outside the lobby, Nick-San leading us to the white goods and and Yuki getting us fed Japanese style, we were made.

Stopped snowing. In Japan?

Getting some upside down time.

And you gotta eat.... rectum.

leftover? no, im gonna finish it.

Smart setup for J-pow, just ask Vegard

A rectum-burrito after skiing?

Even the telephone posts have pillows bigger than anything you can find in Norway on top of their 10cm radius area.

The tunneling deep snow from day 1 did not repeat itself, as it stopped pownding down and the snow settled quickly. Beeing able to see whan you ski was ok too, so we did not cry about that, even though we would not mind another day of faceshottubes. Instead it was time to hike up top, get some longer runs and also find some stuff to jump off of. After all, landings, that's what pow is for.

Stay tuned. We are heading for some steeper terrain with more airs!

Japan part one: got pow, need sushi.

After a madness trip, with first plane late out of Stockholm, second plane technical problems at Frankfurt, lost luggage chaos in Tokyo and almost missing connection to Sapporo, we arrived in Niseko to ski over head pow full on from the first morning.

Porpoising: coming up for air between long stays in the white room under the lifts in Niseko.

Coming into the mountains with the bus from the airport I could already tell it was going to be epic. I knew the snow had been good for a week and it was still pjuking. It could not go wrong. … at least if I´d have had any skis. Boots were hand luggage though and I managed to get some Hellbents from a couple of cool local dudes running Niseko Powder Lodge so the game was on.

The borrowed Hellbent getting the job done.

Reversed camber, yes please. All that we can get. It does not get much better than this. Ever. 50 meter roosters, double overhead sprays and 10 second faceshots is even more than I expected from the legendary Japan pow.

We have had a couple of good days in Niseko now, cheked into the Hilton and enjoying hot-tubbing with the fishes and the in-house gondola there before are heading out for some more adventurous stuff; maybe a remote cat-skiing trick, maybe some hard core touring and then heading south into the J-alps. Stay tuned.

Holiday Hygge in Hemsedal

After the American pow adventure it was time to get back to reality. Hygge was awaiting me at the airport and we straightlined for good times Christmas celebrations in the woods of Sweden, then NewYears in the hills of Norway.

Rippin pow is good but snowracer action with the hygge is the schizzles above all. Throw in a tractor, an ATV and some good old good times in the hay and we're talkin' hard rock Christmas, Swedish style.

Sledding down to the barn to get into some...

tractor action...

and some more petrol powered farming tools.

and some environmentally friendly traditional farm fun.

Then up to Hemsedal to hook up with David and Cam and little My to get down with some New Years celebration and schredding. Max Hygge got to kick it on skis, freeride and back country style, and Mac daddy too. Good with a gradual stepping down of the pow consumption.

JAPAN NEXT!

More Pow at WH2O

Had to put the Saturn to the test and compare it to the Chevy on another 10hr afterski driving mission up into British Colombia, since it seemed the Baker had left the oven open in Washington again.

In the white room, topped with bluebird.

Kari Medig had invited us to come up to Nelson, to stay with him, check out the pow in Whitewater and taste BC's next best coffee since we missed Mark's Stoke-beans up in Revy. We got there in the morning after another epic Motel session and got straight into the game of deep white frozen H2O.

Met some chill locals and headed out with Clay aka Pat Maweanie, one who could guide us to the best cliffs around and demonstrate very well how to go off them in the best possible way. Upside down, flipped backwards and both hands on the goggles that is. It was mostly snowing and ovecast but the sun even came out for a couple of hours and we got to have a brief look at the surrounding out of bounds terrain potential.

Happy-Pat out to chop some lumber.

We even became world famous and posted on the WH2O blog.
