singletrack adventures in Kongsberg:

Had an awesome weekend of singletrack mountainbiking at Terrengsykkel (NO) mag's event Utflukt 2009 in Kongsberg. For four days there was good, dry weather, good times and happy people. The terrain... pretty close to perfect. Well, words are not really necessary, just watch the movie clip.

Bike mountaineering up in the Dovre høgg

Just recieved some shots from my mountainbike touring adventures in Folldal earlier this summer. We had a good week staying at our family's getaway, an small summer farm in Folldal, right between the great Norwegian mountain areas of Rondane and Dovre.

Top of the world. With wheels for going back down.

Up there the round peaks at right above 1500 meters are great for self earned freeriding on two wheels. From around 1000 meters and up the surface is super smooth with small flat rocks, gravel and very little vegetation, meaning you can ride anywhere, like skiing or snowboarding, without having to follow any paths and tracks.

Takin air on a natural little kicker and landing in soft moss above the valley.

Earn your turns.

Pedalling in to where it starts getting steep and then strapping up is the way to go in the Folldal hood. No lift around and fresh tracks everywhere. A singletrack bike with a good bit of suspension does not weigh more than what you can carry on your back, but is still tough enough to handle some beatings going down the mountain full speed. I got to borrow an excellent all-mountain Commencal Meta 5.5 from Bikes&Boards and it totally got the job done.

This is the true meaning of MTB freeriding. All free, all natural.

Hans Magnus relaxing in the bushes after a good ride down from Fatfjellet. Still a bit of fine singletrack is in front of us before we return to the cabin.

Da getaway crib.

Thanx to Hans Magnus for the shots.

summer surf report: no barrels but lots of waffles at Stad

Spending summer on the west coast of Norway is like a box of chocolates; You definitely never know what kind of weather, water temperatures or waves you're gonna get. Late spring was super warm and even shorts-temperatures in the water for a while, but for most of the summer it's been quite cold and rainy. There has been waves at least. No big summer swells yet but quite consistantly its been clean and surfable waves every day.

Not the biggest, but a good day with long rides in H-bay

The one annual "big" summer swell never arrived this year at Stad. Legend says that once every summer nice sets will come in from nowhere with over head mid summer goods to those who have been waiting in the bay all summer. This year it seems we'll have to wait until the fall and the first storms start whipping the cream around out in the North Atlantic. Nevertheless, Stad is a good place to be. When Anne's waffle-presse is constantly pumpin out warm harts of hygge and there is surf, even if it is foot high on the longest longboard in the world, it is absolutely good times.

It´s chest when you tuck....

H-bay is still all about hygge: fresh caught wild Salmon at Jan-Ove's to the right, warm Waffles at Anne's to the left.

Max Hygge also enjoying the west coast in between rain showers.

Still a couple weeks left so let's see what Neptun has to offer.

Late night minigraversessions in Stryn

Stopped by Stryn on the way out west to Stad and a month of surfhygge. A late night minigraver session with out favorite dielsel powred toy, kindly provided by Bjørn-Inge to the Flo yo. We had important digging to do in the Graf backyard with Johan and Henke, so late hours of working was the result. It was a hard job, and we were very tired the next day, but somebody had to do it.

Backslick - The Making Of

Been in Stockholm for a while now and finally understood how the east side locals get their everlasting backslick hairstyle. All they need is a weekend, salt water and a jetski. The haigel, spray and hairdryers are obviously just to keep it there thorugh the weekdays.

Check the behind-the-scenes video:

Backslick? Yes please, I love it.

Oslo singletrack city

Came back to Oslo after good times out west and had some good days at the office. Sometimes somebody needs to work and keep the wheels rolling and the machines of society and the globall economy running, you know.... And it doesn't take all day.

Oslo is not the worst place in the world to be, if you have to be in a city. Besides downtown beachvolley-sessions, wakesurf and windsurf in the fjord, there is excellent singletrack mountainbiking right outside the city centre. Havre-P and me went out for some singletrack minigolfing up in the Grinda-hood and came back happy.

Havre-P knows the woods like his back pocket.

Some nice minigolf pitches up and down through Nordmarka.

Next: Stockholm, hope it will be wakesurf city.

Stadsurfing; more good times at the west cape!

Had another good roadtrip out west to the Stad-land. A wave of summer just hit the country, and at the same time some sets of good waves from the North Atlantic came in. That means throw some stash together, get in the car and head out west.

E-bay on Saturday, another nice one goes unridden.

Friday afternoon we left Oslo and came to Stryn just in time for a warm welcome and some classic BBQ-ing at the Graff house. Then a little trip to Folven for some attåt and the next thing we know it is morning and time to get back on the road and hit the ocean. At E-bay the waves were looking pretty good and there was plenty of room in the water. Banks are not too good at the moment so it was peaking everywhere anyway so it was every man was for himself and full on gambling for the ones who did not close out.

Graff: Another word for Hygge. Only thing missing was the minigraver. Thanx Johan, Henke and the others!

If the waves were good then the weather was perfect. 100% bluebird, 18 hrs of sun per day, and bikini temperatures. Hoddevikawaii here we come. Between surf sessions the only thing to do was fry some skin, grill some hotdogs and get ready for the next session. The swell did not last forever so it was all about gitting as many sessions as possible the first days.

Frode-fashion, Kjøttulf, Jallis and Ola chilling between advanced bathing sessions in E-bay. As clearly can be seen in the picture there were also lots of hot blondes surrounding the surfers theese days.

Kittil catches a nice left from the shipwreck.

Thanx to Simen @ Lapoint.

Stad: We'll be back. While we are waiting, what about some singletrack mountainbiking? Stay tuned! -Torkel
